Emergency procedure.

IX Methodology

This document shall be read in conjunction with the approved Method Statement for Aluminum Nosing Installation.

Mock-up

Build mock-up to verify selections made under sample submittals and demonstrate aesthetic effects and set quality standards for fabrication and installation.

The mock-up for aluminum nosing will be as per the approved shop drawing.

A mock-up for aluminum nosing will be fabricated and installed as per the procedure for the permanent works as described in the succeeding sections below.

Approved mock-ups for aluminum nosing may become part of the completed work if undisturbed at the time of substantial completion.

Delivery, Storage, and Handling

Deliver the aluminum nosing wrapped in protective coverings and strapped together in suitable packs.

Remove protective coverings before they stain or bond to finished surfaces.

Store products on elevated platforms in a dry location.

Field Measurements, Verification, Coordination, and Fabrication of Metal Works

Field Measurements

Verify actual locations of steps and other construction contiguous with aluminum nosing by field measurements before fabrication and indicate measurements on shop drawings.

Verification and Coordination

Coordinate installation of anchorages for aluminum nosing items.

For screws that are to be embedded in concrete, verify that the concrete has attained the required strength before embedding the screw.

Coordinate with other work that has interface with the installation of aluminum nosing.

b. Installation of Aluminum Nosing

The concrete surface will be prepared in line with the profile of the approved aluminum nosing (Crosshatched units, (76 mm) wide with (17-mm) lip, for casting into concrete steps).

Provide Hilti HPS-IR 6/S x 30 plastic screw for embedding units in concrete, either integral or applied to units, as standard with the manufacturer.

Apply clear lacquer to concealed surfaces of extruded units.

Center nosing on tread widths unless otherwise indicated.

For nosing embedded in concrete steps or curbs, align nosing flush with riser faces and level with tread surfaces. On the prepared concrete surface, the aluminum nosing will rest on grout/mortar bedding.
